Today I am old…again

At lunch, we were talking about our current office space and well, the lack of it. I heard someone mention that one of the offices was currently being used by some people from an outside company. So I said:
“I was wondering who those kids were running around.”
At least it made other people feel less old as I began to feel more so resigned to my age.
I’m in that in between time when being old serves no useful purpose. When you’re, say, forty you can claim wisdom or experience or clarity—regardless of whether it’s true or not. In your “late twenties” you’re simply—not young. That’s it.
