Office etiquette

Brenda:
Nothing says “good job” like a nice open-palm smack on the rear

Jamie:
Hahahahaha, I love that

I should try that with my new boss, some male executive. Slap his ass and say “good job sir”.

And so it begins

Despite the fact that I think that I’m pretty fucking phenomenal, not everyone does:

[ALL CAPS NAME],

Thank you for your interest in employment with [some company]. We have reviewed your resume and have carefully considered your qualifications. While your skills are certainly impressive, we have decided to pursue other candidates for the position.

We will maintain your records for a period of time. Should a position open that matches your qualifications we will contact you.

Again, thank you for your interest in [some company].

Sincerely,

[the hamster inside the computer]

Any time the word “while” is used, you might as well just stop reading there.

I like the automated all caps name. “Hello person who we feel is not worth anyone’s time…”

But, on the bright side, in this day and age, getting a response at all is almost an honor. Like it was an honor just to be nominated - no it wasn’t.

Tough camera

So, whilst cleaning out my car, I accidently dropped the lil’ spare digital camera onto the hard pavement. It fell a good two feet. I decided to test it out with this shot of the outside of my house. Looks pretty good to me - as does my siding.

For a better side by side comparison of the bathroom sans ugly cabinet, here you go…

Check out this post on Techzo.com called “The Process of Software Development”

HILARIOUS and sadly, so true.

Bathroom work

So, here we see the bathroom before. Pretty nasty if you ask me. You’ll notice the YELLOW light above the sink, the fuzzy dealy on the (ICK) padded toilet seat, and the very cramped nature of the space as a whole, thanks to the oversized wall cabinet.

Well, Sora and I got a wild hair last weekend and we went to town on the bathroom.

First we removed the medicine cabinet.

Then we decided some light would be nice. I had taken a cue from my dad who had drilled a screw into a beam in the attic to hang the same light. This, however, far supercedes the awesomeness of the attic light, as this one can be operated by the wall switch! Ta-da! (… yes, there’s a plug in plain view)

We also decided that the goddamn wall cabinet had to go. Removing just a few screws did the trick.

Then we decided to tackle the fan.

Common now, let’s have some light.

We went to Home Depot and for the low low price of about $30 we got a new fan/light combination. Now I can see! Sora did most of the work with all of the climbing in the attic and such (possibly tearing down part of the ceiling). I directed, offered advice, and came up with many priceless and practical ideas. A born manager.

The bathroom is quite light an airy now. I added a little thin shelving unit near the door to hold the stuff that would have gone in the wall closet. You can’t see it here, as of yet. I am still debating on its usefulness and worthiness of the price of $100. ** I’ll update with more pictures.

I was also able to procure a new medicine cabinet last night at HomeGoods. It is a surface mount, negating the big hole you see, but it is sizeable and was only $60. I have learned that there is definitely some kind of racket involved in the medicine cabinet business. They should be ashamed.

Anyway, left on the list is:

  • Get the door to swing outward instead of inward
  • Lay some flooring, tile or otherwise
  • Take the fake “tile” off of the walls and either paint or wallpaper.

THEN we should be pretty much done with this little makeover, or well, resuscitation.

More than you EVER…

I mean NEVER wanted to know about the everyday struggles of women’s breasts.

For a highly illustrative, and I mean HIGHLY, look at the problems faced by breasts in the daily lives of women, you can go to this wonderful site for shock absorbing bras. Be sure to customize a bra for yourself. Then you’ll really see, yes SEE, what we’re going through.

I’d keep a doggy bag on hand.

Video!

Thank friggin’ God. I finally got this damn plug-in to work. To celebrate, here is some more Vincent Price. It was my original post about him that put me on this quest for video.

So yes, this IS the kind of stuff that keeps me up at night - what to do with that old computer, what to do with all of this other nebulous electronic crap…

And here, I’m not the only one. Two sites to fill that worry spot in my heart:

GreenerComputing.com

MyGreenElectronics.org
