Dyke it up
Posted on July 29th, 2006 in Daily Life | No Comments »
So, my working at the car repair shop (known from now on as “The Shop”) is getting a bit tough on the ol’ feet. I would say mostly due to the fact that I am, not only on my feet all day, but also on my feet on concrete.
Last week I went and bought a pair of the Dr. Marten’s shoes you see above. They are the maker of what my father used to call, “Dyke Boots”. These are my Dyke Shoes. I had remembered that they were made to mold to your feet and were comfortable. I should have listened to the reviews that said they had little arch support. I also should have realized more clearly, that I NEED arch support. My feet still hurt that Saturday after four hours. After $70, that was disappointing and I returned them. I am sure they are very comfortable for people who don’t care about arch support, but I can’t have my feet wobbling around all day inside my shoe.
I have now found another pair of boots that are slightly less dyke-tastic. The little gusset, though, uck, not what I am looking for. Hopefully it can be taken off. It’s as if they somehow added something of the caliber of a fanny pack to the boots. I’ll let you know what I think.
CVS Extra Bucks

The other day I was introduced to a concept at CVS called Extra Bucks. What it is, basically, is free money to use at CVS. When I discovered this, I was given 4 Extra Bucks. I decided to use it for some snacks.
The only caveat to the whole Extra Bucks thing is that you have to spend it all to use it all, you receive no change from it. Makes sense. With my purchase of a bag of Funyuns, a bag of crunchy Cheetos, and a pack of gum, I got decently close to $4.00 and went on my way.
As I checked my receipt, however, I noticed that I had received another 10 Extra Bucks! THIS was serious money in need of serious spending. I knew I would need help so I took my co-worker, who is still named Brenda, and went to the local CVS for snacks. Boy did we cash in. We purchased the following:
- 2 bags of Funyuns
- 1 bag puffy Cheetos
- 1 bag crunchy Cheetos
- 1 box of Brown Sugar and Cinnamon Pop Tarts
- 1 bag of Dove chocolates
- 1 bag of Reeces Miniatures
It was a good trip. We actually spent $12 or so. It was entirely worth it and my dentist agrees. I must be a preferred customer. I would prefer me. I can see that.
I received no more Extra Bucks, sadly, but I think we made out pretty well. Yes, I said it, Brenda and I made out.

Where to recycle

If only they would standardize a bit, but anyway, here is a link to a short list of ways to find out about recycling in your area.
And some other good links for you…

Secret correspondences MF style

I am starting to think that Muffin Face is not simply a ninja, but rather, a secret agent. This morning I witnessed her sending an email. Sora can confirm. The contents of the message were some kind of code and consisted only of the following — ‘1
I have yet to be able to decipher the message. She was also very sly in her execution. She pretended to be merely crawling across the keyboard of my Mac when she was, in fact, sending an electronic missive.
We will need to watch her closely–very closely.
**UPDATE**
I believe I have found the recipient of Muffin Face’s cryptic message:

My 100th post!

Oh, what to say, what to say? First, I’d like to thank Sora for introducing me to the world of blogging. Secondly, I’d like to thank the First Ammendment and both of the internets for making blogging possible. I’d also like to thank my mind for being filled with–what I feel is–interesting crap. I’d also like to thank God and Jebus because, without them, I would have many less swears in my vocabulary. Finally, I’d like to thank the greenies because together, I think one day we COULD make it possible for our shit not to stink.
And now onto my post. I decided today to FINALLY start painting my RC car, and by painting I mean spray painting. I put a nice thick strip of painters tape down the middle for the upcoming stripe and have learned, yet again, that maroon/magenta is translucent–a minor problem. Right now I need to 1) buy some more of this translucent shit, and 2) buy a nice undercoating of perhaps gold to make it a little more opaque.
Before I can show you any pictures of the body, I have to show you pictures of the innerds.
My RC car is a Tamiya Alfa Romeo. It took me many months to complete, but you should know it really only took about 2 weeks of real work. The rest of that time was spent waiting to overcome some imaginary obstacle wherein the car sat idly on my drafting table.
Here is the motor and the front suspension (I think)
This is what I am calling the chassis
Before her passing, I was able to successfully chase Wonder Kitty / Willie Moe with this speed demon. It’s VERY quick. Now onto completing the body. More paint and we should be doing well. I will post pictures ASAP.
